Palak paneer is easy and simple to make at home in few minutes. Palak means spinach and Paneer mean Indian Cottage cheese. Palak paneer is made by blanching and pureeing the spinach leaves and cook with the homemade paneer. Homemade Paneer is a soft, fresh and makes the palak paneer healthy and yummy. Spinach and paneer are the main ingredients in this dish. Apart from spinach and paneer, this dish includes spices, onion, tomato, green chilies and cream. Spices, onion and tomatoes give an excellent flavor to the palak paneer. Adding the heavy cream is optional but it gives a mildly sweet taste to the palak paneer.

Smart Cooking Tips:

1. If you are using frozen spinach thaw it before blanching, this helps to make a smooth and creamy palak paneer.

2. Avoid blanching the spinach leaves for a long time. Because spinach tends to cook faster and loses its nutrition.

3. Also, add spinach leaves to the cold water immediately after blanching this helps to retain the green color that makes a bright and beautiful palak paneer.

4. Cook the onion and tomatoes until it becomes soft so that it will blend well with the spinach puree and makes a smooth and creamy curry.

5. Avoid adding too much water after adding spinach puree because palak paneer should be in a thick consistency.

6. Paneer tends to cook faster so avoid cooking for a long time after adding paneer cubes. If you cook paneer for a long time it will become crumble and mix with the curry without staying in a cube shape.

7. Adding cream is optional but the heavy cream gives a mildly sweet taste to the curry. You can also replace the cream with yogurt.

Palak paneer is one such delicious and healthy recipe using paneer. Last week I made Kalakand a milk sweet using homemade paneer that turned out soft and delicious. From the day I started making paneer at home, I completely stopped buying paneer from stores. Also, paneer stays fresh for up to 4 days in a refrigerator. Whenever I have leftover milk in my refrigerator that is about to expire quickly, I make paneer and use it in curries, parathas or sweets.

Palak Paneer Recipe is an easy and simple vegetarian food in 30 minutes. Palak Paneer with chapati or rice is the healthy meal ideas for quick dinners. 

  • 200 gms SPINACH RAW
  • 2 no ROMA TOMATO
  • 0.50 cup ONION CHOPPED
  • 2 tsp CORIANDER POWDER
  • 2 no GREEN CHILIES
  • 2 tsp GINGER
  • 2 tsp GARLIC RAW
  • 2 tsp RED CHILI POWDER
  • 0.50 tsp GARAM MASALA
  • 2 tbsp HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM
  • 0.25 tsp TURMERIC GROUND
  • 150 gms PANEER
  • 2 tbsp OIL
  • 1 tsp CUMIN SEED
  1. Wash the spinach leaves in a cold running water thoroughly. If you are using frozen spinach thaw it before starts cooking.

  2. In a saucepan add water and bring it to a rolling boil. Turn off the heat and add spinach leaves to it and blanch for 3 – 5 minutes or until the leaves shrink and become soft.

  3. Immediately drain the leaves from hot water and add it to the cold water. This helps to retain a beautiful green color of the spinach.

  4. In a mixer or blender add blanched spinach leaves, green chilies and grind it to a smooth puree.

  5. In a separate pan heat oil and add cumin seeds, chopped ginger, garlic and saute until nice aroma comes out. 

  6. Add the chopped onion and cook until onion becomes soft and the color changes into golden brown.

  7. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.

  8. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and mix well. Cook until the raw smell of spices goes off (keep stirring in between to avoid burning the spices, onion, and tomato).

  9. Add palak puree, salt, garam masala and mix well. Add up to half a cup of water or until it reaches a thick gravy consistency and cook until it starts boiling. Add cubed paneer and cook for a couple of minutes. Garnish it with heavy cream (optional) and mix well.”]
