Instant Oats Idli with Vegetables

Instant Oats idli is an easy and healthy Indian breakfast. Oats, sooji (rava) and vegetables together make a delicious breakfast.

Traditionally, idli is made by soaking and grinding the rice and urad dal to a fluffy batter and fermenting overnight and steam the batter in the idli plate for 12 to 15 minutes. Instant oats idli is an easy and quick recipe that you can make in just half an hour. Also, it is an excellent way to include healthy oats in the diet regularly.   1. Roasting oats and sooji is an important step. If you skip this step the idlis would turn out sticky.

How to make oats idli mix and store?

You can make oats idli mix in bulk and store in the freezer for future use. This mix freezes well for a month. Whenever u need to make idlis, take the mix out from the freezer, add yogurt, water, mix well and set the batter for 30 mins. Add baking soda, mix well and pour the batter into the idli molds and steam for 12 to 15 minutes.

Instant Oats idli is an easy and healthy Indian breakfast. Oats, sooji (rava) and vegetables together make a delicious breakfast.

  • 1 cup Oats
  • 0.50 cup Sooji (Rava)
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 0.50 cup Onion Chopped Finely
  • 0.50 cup Carrot Chopped
  • 0.50 cup Capsicum Chopped
  • 0.50 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 0.50 tsp Urad Dal
  • 0.50 cup Yogurt
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.50 tsp Baking Soda
  1. Dry roast oats over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes until nice nutty aroma comes out. Remove the roasted oats from pan and set aside to cool. Grind to a coarse powder using a blender.
  2. In the same pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds and wait until it splutters.

  3. Add urad dal and roast until the color changes to golden brown. 

  4. Add chopped onion and cook until the onion becomes soft. Add chopped carrot, capsicum and cook until the veggies become slightly tender.

  5. Add sooji (rava) and roast for 4 to 5 minutes over medium heat. 

  6. In a wide bowl, add powdered oats, sooji mixture, yogurt and mix well. Add water slowly and make a batter. The batter should slightly thick but in a flowing consistency.

  7. Set the batter for 15 minutes. Add baking soda to the batter and mix well. 

  8. Grease the idli plate with oil, add a spoonful of batter in each mold and stem for 15 minutes. 

  9. Let the idlis sit in the idli molds for 5 minutes and take out using a slotted spoon. Oats idli is ready to serve.

Serve oats idli with sambar, coconut chutney or peanut chutney or any chutney of your choice.

  4. Add boiled potato, salt, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, grounded coconut paste and mix well. Cook uncovered until the potato color starts changing to golden brown (4 to 5 minutes). Potato eggplant stir fry is ready to serve.

  3. Add the chopped eggplants, cover and cook over a medium heat until the eggplants become soft.

  4. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, grounded coconut paste and mix well. Cook uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes (keep stirring). Eggplant stir fry is ready to serve.
