Best Gulab Jamun Recipe With Milk Powder

Gulab Jamun with milk powder is soft and melts in mouth Indian sweet. It is an easy and delicious dessert for parties and potlucks.

How to prepare gulab jamun with milk powder?

Gulab jamun with milk powder tastes soft, spongy, flavorful and delicious compared to the gulab jamun made using the store bought a mix. It is easy to make gulab jamuns at home but it is little bit tricky with the simple tips you can make delicious gulab jamuns at home, you have to measure the ingredients using the measuring cups exactly. I have tried the gulab jamun recipe using the milk powder for three times. The first time it was completely a mess. I added the extra amount of baking soda so the gulab jamuns didn’t hold the round shape when frying. The second time I soaked the gulab jamuns in a hot boiling sugar syrup and that time the taste was good but when I took the gulab jamuns after an hour from the sugar syrup it just breaks into a half. Third time with all the above experience it just turned out perfect.

 

Smart Cooking Tips:

  1. Use measuring cups to measure the ingredients, milk powder, all purpose flour and baking soda measurement should be in the right amount.
  1. While frying gulab jamuns the oil should be in a low to medium heat. If you fry over a high heat the gulab jamuns remain uncooked in the center.
  1. Add milk little by little and knead lightly to a soft dough. If you knead too much the gulab jamuns would turn out rubbery.
  1. Roll the gulab jamuns into smooth balls without leaving any cracks. The cracks in the gulab jamuns expand when frying and sometimes it just burst and spills hot oil out of the frying pan.
  1. Avoid boiling the sugar syrup for a long time just boil until the syrup becomes slightly sticky and turn off the heat.
  1. Soak gulab jamuns in the hot sugar syrup, not in the boiling very hot syrup or cold syrup. If you soak in the cold syrup the gulab jamuns won’t absorb the syrup. If you soak in the hot boiling the sugar syrup the gulab jamuns would break.
  2. Soak in the sugar syrup for at least a couple of hours before serving for a soft and delicious gulab jamuns.

Gulab Jamun with Milk Powder and Bisquick:

There are many varieties of gulab jamuns like sweet potato gulab jamuns and bread gulab jamuns but nothing beats the taste of traditional gulab jamuns made with milk powder. Bisquick is an alternative to the all-purpose flour and baking soda. It acts as a binding agent in the gulab jamuns. Gulab jamun with milk powder and bisquick also tastes just like the traditional ones.

Best Gulab Jamun Recipe with Milk Powder

Gulab Jamun is soft and melts in mouth sweet with milk powder. It is an easy and delicious sweet for parties and potlucks.

  • 1 cup Milk Powder
  • 6 tbsp All Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 1 pinch Baking Soda
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 3 to 4 tbsp Milk (for kneading dough)
  • 1.50 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 no Cardamoms
  • 1 pinch Saffron (optional)
  • 2 to 3 drops Lemon Juice
  • 1 to 2 cup Oil (for frying gulab jamuns)
  1. For Preparing Sugar Syrup: In a saucepan, add sugar, water, crushed cardamom, saffron, lemon juice and boil together until the sugar syrup becomes slightly sticky. Turn off the heat.
  2. For Preparing Gulab Jamun: In a bowl, add milk powder, all purpose flour, baking soda and mix well.

  3. Add ghee and mix well. Add milk little by little and knead a soft dough (do not over knead a dough). 

  4. Divide the dough into small portions and roll into the smooth small size balls without leaving any cracks. Gulab jamun expands in its size when frying and soaking in the hot sugar syrup.

  5. Deep fry in the oil over a low to medium heat until golden brown and drain out the excess oil from the gulab jamuns. 

  6. Add to the hot sugar syrup immediately when the fried gulab jamun is still hot and soak for a couple of hours. Serve gulab jamun with a spoon full of sugar syrup.

How to serve gulab jamun?

You can serve gulab jamun warm or at room temperature. Hot gulab jamun with vanilla ice cream is a delicious combo.

[Guide] How we went from 0 to 257k in 5 months?

Last year we were planning to go for a 5 weeks’ vacation.

With all the excitement, we kind of let the blog go on an auto pilot. Not adding any new content or promoting any existing content.

Soon we saw the traffic was going down, but I was hoping that when we return from vacation and take it up again.

Everything will be back to normal.

Unfortunately, when we returned it was catastrophic. Due to some technical issues the site was totally down.

The traffic jumped down to almost zero.


I was shocked and thought it was all over.

Totally devastated. Still, I didn’t want to give up.

Still, I didn’t want to give up.

We discussed and decided to start all over again.

Set up a new blog from scratch and get it going better than it was before.

This time we wanted to do it quickly. To achieve our goal, we needed a solid growth plan.

Just didn’t want to do it randomly and wait for growth to happen. I want to grow big intentionally.

 

We started creating a growth plan.

That means we need to lay out the exact steps to get traffic quickly.

In our mind, we do have a long-term goal.

But for the next milestone, we planned to get 100k monthly views.

I want to get that in 6 months.

It sounded pretty aggressive because I know it takes a lot of dedication and focus.

But definitely achievable.

 

Fast forward 5 months.

We hit that 100k views.

On top of that, we had laid a pretty solid foundation for more massive growth.

I wanted to share all the tips that we learned to grow quickly.

If you are new to blogging or someone interested in growing traffic to your site.

These tips could be helpful.

Start with competitor analysis

Setting the goal is the first step to success. For us, the goal is set.

100k Monthly Views in 6 Months

Next, the question is, how to achieve the goal?

The best way to find that is by spying the competition.

Learning about our competition is the best way to know what works currently.

Rather than trying 100 things and testing by ourselves, we tried to copy what the experts in our field are doing.

I use SEMrush to do the competitor analysis.

It is a fantastic tool to learn a lot about competition and do SEO.

Here are the 4 things you can discover using SEMrush.

  • Traffic Analysis – Know where your competitors are sharing their content to get the traffic to their site.
  • Backlinks – Get the list of backlinks your competitors earned to rank their site higher in Google and just do the same.
  • Keyword research – You can learn what content is working best for your competition. Get those keywords and write content for those keywords. Also, find the new related keywords that can get you more traffic and backlinks.
  • Discover more competition – The tool also provides other competitors that you might not have known that exist. Let’s say you identified one competitor, and once you entered their domain, it will show other competitors in that space. You can start doing analysis on those competitors as well.

After we collected the data about our competition and then data about our blog. We made a list of things to do.

The list looked like this.

  • Social media to focus: We found that these are the sites we need to focus Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. We also made a sub-list with details on the type of content and timings for each website to share. The mix not only had our content but also content from other related sites.
  • Related content aggregator sites: There are so many sites that accept to share your content on their sites. Some of them work, and many don’t do a thing. Based on the competitor research we made a list of websites that are effective.
  • Backlinks: There are many types of links we can get, like comment links, contextual links, PBN’s and profile links. Based on the analysis we found few easy links like comment links, profile, and web 2.0 links.
    Then we also made a list of links and type of anchor text needed for it.
    We are continuing to add more of these links, and this would be an ongoing process.
  • Competitor Keywords: We found this as one of the easy things to do. Find the most popular content from competitors and do a page analysis through SEMrush and you will get more suggested keywords. Create content based on those keywords and add the additional keywords.

p.s. I understand some of these steps would be considered advanced for some of you. Just let me know in comments if you need more information or clarification.

Once we had an action plan. We had to execute it one by one.

 

SEO

We started with SEO first. As soon as the new blog is setup we installed all the required plugins like Yoast and recipe maker plugins to get the site more visible for Google.

Categories

When setting up the blog, you need to make sure the structure of the blog is good and the content flows naturally.

We found the best way to do it is by defining the categories. We picked only few categories and created content only based on those categories. It creates a lot of focus and over a period of time, people will know exactly what to expect from your blog.

Google and search engines will also know the relevance of your blog when they are properly categorized.

Tags

Similar to categories, tags are also important. We created only a few tags and created content focused on those tags and categories. Don’t create a ton of tags and make your blog look like a giant marketplace.

Onpage

Many overlook this aspect in the blog post. Remember google is a machine and it looks for clues and structure to understand the meaning of the content.

It is our responsibility to make it easy for search engines to crawl the site and understand the information. Try to follow guidelines on the length of the post, title, and URL.

Yoast plugin will give a ton of information and follow the recommendations.

Keywords

In SEO, keywords play a huge role.

We follow these steps when picking the keywords.

  1. Pick one main keyword for each post.
  2. Then pick 2 sub keyword.
  3. Finally, pick 10 semantic keywords.

These keywords should be related to the main keywords.

Say your main keyword is Chocolate cake, your sub keywords would be easy birthday cake and party desserts. Now your semantic keywords would be white frosting, eggless cake, cake mix, cake recipe in 30 mins and so on. (I am just making up those keywords for easy understanding).

Add these keywords all throughout the post, they give Google the signals it needs to understand the context of the post.

Follow the recommendations from Yoast plugin for more ideas about the keyword density and placements. To make sure your keywords appear in the post for search engines to quickly identify them.

Internal Links

A blog is a network of links, each link gives relevancy to the other. Make sure your post links to other posts on your blog.

They not only give your visitors more options to visit other pages; it also gives google the signal it needs to link relevant content within your site.

Make sure not to spam with too many links, just add 2-3 links related to the post. Placement of these links is also important. Based on the content we place them at locations where people are likely to click.

External Links

Just like internal links, external links are very important. Link to other pages from authority blogs, related to your content. They also gives relevance to Google to find your site and index based on the link you provided.

It is powerful but many overlook this thinking they would lose their link juice or send their visitors to other site.

The fact is more you link out, the faster your page would get indexed and get more traffic. Remember blogging is all about networking, create the chain of networks and search engines will reward with a ton of traffic.

Speed

Speed of the site is one of the most important signal for search engines and also it gives your user a better experience.

No one like a slow site so is Google.

Our blog when we started was super slow. After adding ads and affiliates in the site, it was loading at 60 sec. It was horrible.

We did everything possible based on the information from the web, optimizing the site as much as possible still not much luck.

Hosting

Then we found that server was responding slowly for our requests. We use a well reputed provider, but for the kind of blog it was not performing at the levels we need.

I researched and found this hosting provider called A2 hosting, they had a whole different server configuration and was rated no1 by many experts.

The cost was also competitive. Moreover, when we jumped, it was cheaper than the existing one.

I immediately jumped on it. It took only a few hours, and they moved all the stuff for us. (Support is incredible, they pretty much did everything for us).

As soon as we moved, we saw a huge difference in speed. It went down to 13sec to load a page. It was massive for us.

 

Cache Plugin

Even after hosting change the speed was great, but we wanted more, that is mainly because of ads. We had ads from 5 -6 networks and then 3 -6 affiliate networks. It is a lot of requests for the site to handle and we knew we couldn’t expect anything more from the hosting.

Because we saw another site hosted on the same A2 servers without ads, performing at 1.3 secs per page load. So I knew the slowness was because of the ads.

Still, I wanted to optimize it further and was looking for a cache plugin. We already had some premium caching plugin, and it was working ok for us.

While researching I heard great reviews for WP Rocket plugin, but it was super expensive for me. They charge $199 per year.

I wasn’t sure if it would worth it.

Later, I found an irresistible deal and jumped on it.

As soon as I installed and configured it, it worked like magic.

The site is loading at a blazing speed. 7 sec per page load.

Http to Https (SSL)

Google recently announced that site with https ranks better than HTTP.

Moving to a https site requires some planning and some level of work. Here are the steps that involved if you are planning to make the switch as well.

  1. Purchase SSL certificate and install it. Luckily it was included in our hosting for FREE.
  2. Install a plugin called really simple SSL and let it configure your site.
  3. Make sure all your content, images and theme contents like CSS and js are redirected to https. The plugin will do most of it but make sure some of the content could be broken. It happened to us.
  4. Submit your site to Google, https site is considered as a new site in webmaster. So you need to submit the site again. Sometimes it could take months to reindex all the site content. For us, it only took about a week.
  5. You need to point all your ads to a secured version. Contact your ads provider to make that switch. Also, remember some ad networks will not support the SSL ads, and you might get a hit in revenue. Talk to them first.

After all, these work, does it really worth it?

Absolutely. The ranking of our site went up within a week.

The secure site looked better in search results with https and green bar in the browser. I felt good about it; I am sure the visitors will also feel the same.

And surprisingly, our ads revenue went up significantly. I don’t know why maybe there is less competition for secured ads. It worked out well for us.

CDN

CDN stands for content delivery network. In simple terms, it means the content is distributed to many servers around the world and will be served by the server close to the user request location.

To make the content load faster.

For example, if you have your hosting server in the US and if your user views the website from India, the CDN delivers the content from a server close to India, for the page to load faster.

Cloudflare is a popular one, which is free as well. However, we use an ad network called ezoic. They are really good at optimizing your sites for better revenue.

They also have a CDN built in for Free (which is powered by Amazon, which is better than CloudFlare CDN). I use this to solve 2 problems at the same time.

Blog Traffic

Traffic is the bloodline for any online business, and blog only runs based on traffic. There is no point in optimizing the site and not have any traffic.

Based on our competitor analysis, we knew exactly where to post our content to start getting traffic.

However, we need to do a ton of sharing and promotion to get the level of traffic we need. So we decided to automate many of the tasks.

Social Media

We all know social media, especially Facebook and Pinterest can drive thousands of visitors if done right. The challenge is in testing it.

Because they change the rules every day, so we need to continually test to see what works best currently. The problem is testing takes a lot of time.

Fortunately, many tools in the market can help you with automation.

One of the products we used is this one. It can help automate many tasks, especially Facebook groups. It is a game changer if you are serious about growth.

At the same time, don’t rely only on automation. Social media is a place where real people hang out, make sure you are actively involved and help them as much you can.

It works like magic when you interact personally.

Messenger Bots

At the same time, you cannot be available to answer at all the time. So we built few bots to fill that gap. When the reader interacts with the bot, we take it over from it and handle the customer request personally as soon as we are online.

 

Email Marketing

I believe marketing is getting really personal. There are a ton of generic information on the internet.

But people need personalized information to solve their specific problems. Moreover, I am interested in custom tailor the content based on the user request.

That is why I even encourage people to chat with me and offer to solve the problem on a personal level.

Email marketing helps to do that at some level.

We have different types of opt-in all over the blog based on the content.

If the user opts in, we send content related to their interest.

Moreover, we would be listening to the user request and add more content based on their preference.

It works like a charm, not only we get good open rate but also repeat visitors.

Look at the open rate for our blog; it is way above the industry average.

Related Sites

Another popular traffic source is related sites. There are so many sites that are out there who accept your content and promote it to their audience.

From the list we gathered from our competitor research, we just have to pick the ones that are effective and participate in that.

It brings a ton of traffic and backlinks to us easily. However, the list keeps changing because the website changes and suddenly the site that worked before doesn’t work anymore.

We constantly test and find new ways to promote the content.

Videos

You might already know. Videos are currently trending up. Especially for food blogs. Once we started publishing solid contents and got a little bit of traction, we started publishing short videos as well.

They bring a lot of engagement and reach but not so much of traffic yet.

Our long-term goal is not just to get traffic, but also grow a good following and brand building. Initially it might not get the results we need, but eventually, I see this is going to be a great channel to grow our blog.

We yet need to create a marketing strategy for videos. That is on the top of the list for this year.

Revenue

When we got started, our initial goal is to generate traffic consistently. Not so much focused on the revenue part.

Our idea is to generate 100k monthly views and then start optimizing for revenue.

Still, we dint want to miss the opportunity for monetizing the existing traffic. So we had ads in our site, but not much optimized.

Later, when we saw the traffic flowing, we placed some ads strategically.

Ads

Ezoic network is one such network which helps to optimize the ads types and placement. We just had to configure that network and let it learn for 30 days.

Here is the result we saw after 30 days.

438% increase in revenue. Huge win without spending a lot of time.

Then we started testing various ad networks, ad types and placement of those ads. We see a significant increase in revenue when we rotate ads. For example, if you have one type of ad placed in one location, try to switch it with a different ad type. Like from banner ad to text ad. Then try to move the ad location to a different place.

Keep testing these type of variations, until you see a good jump in revenue. Then repeat.

Affiliate

I saved the best for the last.

Affiliate is the best source to make money from your blog. Not many realize that and they waste the blog space on display ads.

I can’t stress enough how huge this is.

We started off with Amazon Affiliate.

The day we included the affiliate links on the blog. We earned about $128 from it. Not great but still we were just getting started.

I am not promising that this will be the case for everyone, because we did configure the affiliate network in such a way the products are relevant and clicks convert.

There are day where we get little from it. Still on an average, it brings some serious money easily. Once again without doing anything.

Amazon affiliate is just a beginning, there are so many affiliate programs that we are testing currently.

Our goal is to remove all the ads and replace it with affiliate at some point.

It is that powerful.

With all these work, we were able to hit our goal of 100k views in 5 months.

And it puts a solid foundation for more growth.

Conclusion

Overall we are at a good start and continuing to grow rapidly. There is a lot of testing and learning a ton of things every day.

The most important lesson we learned is Focus brings success.

EGG DOSA

Egg dosa is a healthy, filling and protein-packed breakfast. Egg spread on the dosa and seasoned with salt and pepper.

How to make dosa batter at home?

Dosa batter is easy and simple to make at home. Though dosa batter is available in grocery stores homemade batter is fresh and good. You can grind batter in the weekends and store in the refrigerator for the upcoming busy weekdays. Dosa batter stays fresh in the refrigerator for at least 3 days.

  1. Idli Rice – 4 cups
  2. Urad Dal – 1 cup
  3. Fenugreek Seeds – 1 tsp
  4. Rinse rice and fenugreek seeds together and soak in the water for 5 hours.

  5. Rinse urad dal and soak in the water for 5 hours.
  6. After hours strain the water from soaked rice and discard. Grind the rice and fenugreek seeds together to a smooth batter by adding fresh water little by little.
  7. Strain water from the soaked urad dal and grind to a smooth and fluffy batter.
  8. Combine both the batters, add salt and mix well with a hand.
  9. Cover and set the batter in the warm place for 8 hours or overnight for fermentation.
  10. After fermentation, the batter rises in the volume.
  11. Add little amount of water to the batter (if necessary) and mix well. Dosa batter is ready to make dosas.

Smart Cooking Tips:

  1. Use a nice fermented dosa batter for a delicious and flavorful dosa.

  2. You can sprinkle finely chopped onion, green chilies, and cilantro after spreading egg on the dosa.

Egg Dosa

Egg dosa is a healthy, filling and protein-packed breakfast. Egg spread on the dosa and seasoned with salt and pepper.

  • 0.50 cup Dosa Batter
  • 1 no Egg
  • 0.50 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Oil
  1. Heat a wide skillet and pour a ladle full of batter on the center a skillet and spread into a thin circle.

  2. Crack open the egg on the dosa and break the yolk with a fork or spoon and spread evenly on the dosa.

  3. Season with salt and crushed black peppers. Sprinkle oil on the sides of a dosa and cook on both the sides until the egg gets cooked thoroughly.

 

How to serve egg dosa?

Serve egg dosa with tomato chutney and coconut chutney.

SOOJI COCONUT LADOO

Sooji Coconut Ladoo or Rava Ladoo is an easy and quick dessert. Roasted sooji, Coconut, Nuts, and Milk together make an excellent ladoo.

Smart Cooking Tips:

  1. Avoid roasting sooji/rava for a long time. It should be in a soft texture.
  2. Make sure to add warm milk for binding the ladoos.

  1. If you replace the milk with ghee for binding, the sooji ladoo will stay good for a longer time. With the milk, it will stay good up to 3 days.
  2. You can also avoid adding coconut in this recipe, but coconut gives more flavor and taste.

  3. Adjust adding ghee according to your taste, I usually prefer ghee taste and flavor in my sweets.

Easy and Quick Diwali Sweet:

During Diwali and other special occasions, this sooji ladoo is an excellent sweet to make and store it for some time. Especially for working moms, it is an excellent time-saving and delicious sweet. You can make it in under 30 minutes without soaking, grinding and frying. This ladoo also works best for the parties with the large crowd, potlucks, and picnics. You can make it a day before and serve it for your guests as it is without heating or cooling.

SOOJI COCONUT LADOO

Sooji Coconut Ladoo or Rava Ladoo is an easy and quick dessert. Roasted sooji, Coconut, Nuts, and Milk together make an excellent ladoo. 

  • 2 cup SOOJI (RAVA)
  • 0.75 cup SUGAR
  • 0.50 cup MILK
  • 1 cup COCONUT SHREDDED
  • 10 gms CASHEW NUTS CHOPPED
  • 10 gms RAISINS
  • 2 no CARDAMOM
  • 2 tbsp GHEE
  1. In a pan heat a tbsp of ghee and roast the sooji in a medium flame, until the nice aroma comes out (you do not have to wait until the color changes into golden brown).
  2. Remove the roasted sooji from the skillet and keep aside until needed.

  3. In the same pan heat remaining ghee and roast the cashew nuts until the color changes into golden brown. Add the raisins, broken cardamoms and roast until raisins plump up. Remove the nuts, raisins, cardamom from the pan and keep aside until needed.

  4. In the same pan add the grated coconut and roast until the color changes into golden brown and add the roasted sooji, sugar, roasted nuts and mix well. Transfer it to a wide bowl and allow it to cool slightly (warm enough to handle with your hands).

  5. Add the warm milk little by little and shape them into small balls.

How to serve Sooji Coconut Ladoo?

You can make this sweet in bulk and store it in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Serve this sweet as it is.

Karachi fruit biscuits are the easy and delicious eggless cookies with Tutti Frutti. Soft and buttery biscuits with tutti frutti and crunchy cashew nuts.

What is tutti frutti?

Tutti frutti is a candied raw papaya, you can find in Indian grocery stores. It is tiny cubes available in red, green and yellow color. Tutti frutti is widely used in sweets, cookies, cakes, and ice cream. It gives a nice sweet and slightly crunchy taste to the dishes. Karachi biscuits are the popular Indian cookies with tutti frutti.

Smart Cooking Tips:

1. You can use mango flavored custard powder.

2. All purpose flour can be replaced with wheat flour but the cookies are not as soft as the cookies made with the all purpose flour.

3. Add milk little by little, 1 tbsp at a time and knead to a soft and smooth dough. If you add more milk the dough would become too soft and soggy.

4. The cookies still remain soft on the top after baking for 18 to 20 minutes. Once cooled down completely the cookies will become crunchy.

Eggless Cookies:

Eggs are added to the cookie dough for the soft cookies. Recently, I tried many eggless cookies Nan Khatai, Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, Banana Oatmeal Cookies and Chocolate Cookies. These cookies are turned soft and delicious. Karachi biscuits are one of the soft and delicious eggless cookies. It tastes soft, buttery and flavorful cookies with tutti frutti. From kids to everyone loves these soft and delicious cookies.

Karachi Fruit Biscuits

Karachi fruit biscuits are the easy and delicious eggless cookies with Tutti Frutti. Soft and buttery biscuits with tutti frutti and crunchy cashew nuts.

  • 1.50 Cup All Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 0.25 Cup Custard Powder (Vanilla Flavor)
  • 0.50 Cup Tutti Fruity
  • 0.25 Cup Cashew nuts (finely chopped)
  • 0.50 Cup Unsalted Butter (softened)
  • 0.75 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 0.50 tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 – 3 tbsp Milk (chilled)
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line the baking sheet with a parchment paper.

  2. In a wide bowl, cream the butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy using an electric hand mixer.  

  3. Sift all-purpose flour, baking powder, and custard powder together to the creamed butter and sugar mixture. Add tutti frutti, chopped cashew nuts and mix well. Add milk (1 tbsp) at a time and knead to a smooth and soft dough.

  4. Divide the dough into small portions and roll into smooth balls and press in between your palms gently for a circle shape and arrange on the parchment lined baking sheet with a 2-inch space apart.

  5. Bake in a pre-heated 350 degrees oven for 18 to 20 minutes until the bottom side of the cookies turns golden brown.

  6. Remove the baking sheet from oven and allow the cookies to cool completely and serve.

How to serve Karachi biscuits?

Serve Karachi biscuits as a snack with a cup of milk or tea. Store these cookies in an airtight container for a couple of weeks.

  • 3 no ROMA TOMATO
  • 1 cup ONION CHOPPED
  • 4 cup CILANTRO (CORIANDER)LEAVES RAW
  • 3 no DRY RED CHILIES
  • 4 tbsp CANOLA OIL
  • 2 tsp GARLIC
  • 1 tsp CORIANDER POWDER
  • 1 tsp SALT TABLE
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onion, garlic and cook until the onion becomes soft.

  2. Add the chopped tomato, red chilies, salt, coriander powder and cook until tomatoes become soft.

  3. Add the coriander leaves and cook for a couple of seconds. Allow it to cool and grind to a smooth paste. Coriander chutney is ready to serve.

How to serve coriander chutney?

Serve coriander chutney as a side dish with Idli or Dosa.

  3. Add chayote, tomatoes, coriander powder, salt and cook until the chayote and tomatoes become soft. Allow to cool and grind it to a smooth chutney. Chow chow chutney is ready to serve.

Carrot Coconut Chutney:

Carrot coconut chutney is an easy and simple chutney with coconut and carrot that goes well with Idli and Dosa. It is similar to the coconut roasted gram chutney tastes similar to the regular coconut chutney with a hint of carrot taste.

    1. Take equal portions of grated carrot and grated coconut with a small piece of ginger, green chilies, a tbsp of roasted grams in a blender and grind to a smooth sauce.
    2. For tempering chutney: In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add urad dal, asafoetida, curry leaves, red chilies and saute until the color changes to golden brown. Add to the chutney and mix well.

  1. In a pan, heat oil, add chopped onion, red chilies, raw tamarind (if using) and cook until the onion becomes soft.

  2. Add grated carrot and cook until the carrot becomes soft. Allow to cool, grind with salt and tamarind paste to a smooth sauce consistency by adding water little by little. Transfer to a serving bowl.

  3. In a small saucepan, heat a tsp of oil, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add urad dal, asafoetida, curry leaves and mix well in the oil. Add it to the chutney, mix well and serve.

How to serve carrot chutney?

Serve carrot chutney with idli and dosa.

PIZZA STYLE CHEESE TOAST

Pizza style cheese toast is simple and easy to make in 5 minutes. Capsicum, melted Cheese, tomato together tastes like a pizza.

I usually make this toast for Saturday’s breakfast or sometimes as an evening snack. Kids would also love this cheese toast.

Smart Cooking Tips:

1. Traditionally this toast is cooked in an oven, but I made it on the stove top using a pan. Trust me it tastes delicious even though I made it in a pan without baking in an oven.

2. I used shredded cheddar cheese for this recipe, you can also use other varieties like mozzarella, swiss cheese.

3. Make sure to cover the pan with a lid after spreading cheese mixture and cook it over a medium flame to avoid burning the bread slice.

PIZZA STYLE CHEESE TOAST

Pizza style cheese toast is simple and easy to make in 5 minutes. Capsicum, melted Cheese, tomato together tastes like a pizza.

  • 0.50 cup CHEDDAR CHEESE
  • 0.25 cup ONION SLICED
  • 2 tbsp TOMATO CHOPPED
  • 3 tbsp SWEET PEPPERS
  • 3 no WHITE BREAD
  • 1 pinch SALT (to taste)
  1. In a medium bowl mix grated cheese, chopped onion, chopped tomato, chopped capsicum and salt together (Add salt according to your taste).

  2. In a hot skillet, grease butter and toast the bread slice slightly on one side. 

  3. Flip the bread slice and spread the cheese mixture on the toasted side. Cover and cook over a medium flame until the cheese gets melt down.

How to serve cheese toast?

Serve this cheese toast as a snack or breakfast.

Potato Toast is an easy and quick evening snack. Mashed potato spread on bread and toasted like a normal toast. Kids would like this toast and sometimes I pack it for my son’s lunch too with some sliced fruits. This toast is a mess-free food and also serves as a great party appetizer.

Potato Toast is an easy and quick evening snack. Mashed potato spread on bread and toasted like a normal toast. 

  • 4 no WHITE BREAD
  • 2 no YELLOW POTATO
  • 2 no GREEN CHILIES
  • 3 tbsp CILANTRO (CORIANDER)LEAVES RAW
  • 0.50 tsp SALT (to taste)
  • 1 tsp UNSALTED BUTTER
  1. Chop the potatoes roughly and boil it until soft. Mash the potatoes until smooth.

  2. Add the chopped green chilies, chopped cilantro, salt and mix well.

  3. Grease the skillet with butter. Spread mashed potato mixture on one side of the bread and toast on both the sides until the color changes into golden brown.

Guide to hire freelancers for your blog

I have been doing a lot of recruitment this year, especially VA, technical people, and marketing folks.

One main reason is, my to-do list was growing crazy and I was accomplishing less as the list grows.

I realized it is time for me to multiply myself. I started looking out for help.

During this process, I learned a ton of things,

How to find which one to outsource?

Make a list of all the tasks you have in hand.

Go to a freelancing site like upwork.com and try to search for each task.

If you find people to do it and that is the task you will outsource. If you cannot find anyone or if that skill is super expensive for you to afford. You keep the task with you.

Usually, the skills like defining your goals, vision for your blog/business, strategies are something hard to find. Even if you find those skills are super expensive to hire.

All other skills like marketing, technical and management are easy to outsource.

People Types

There are 3 types of people,

Why people
– They ask questions like, why are you doing this? which kind of makes you think the purpose and the connection to your long term goal. If they make you think that way – Hire them.

What people – They ask questions like, what do you want me to do? If that what is about just high-level instruction, then you can consider hiring else pass.

Often, these are the people who need to be managed a lot. They will need instructions and guidance all along.

Personally, I don’t hire anyone in this category.

How people – If anyone asks questions like, how do I do it? Run away. They are people who are trying to be trained by you at your expense.

Choose the person who’s life is dependant on it.

When you are picking the person, get to know about his profile, company and what he does for the living and so on.

There are a lot of people in the freelancing world, who are trying to explore to see if they can make some side income.

RUN AWAY from those guys, they never commit.

When the things get rough they disappear without any traces.

At the same time, there would be people who are genuinely trying to do this part time and planning to become full-time when the time is right.
They are great to hire, but it is impossible to find those guys.

When it comes to picking the right guy, ask this one question

What happens when you fire him? – will he happily move on, or will he go broke? If his life depends on the job, then he is the right person for your team.

Don’t Negotiate the price

I personally think, paying them whatever they ask is critical for long-term success. Even sometimes, if they ask below what I have estimated. I go and offer them more.

The reason is it leave so much positive impact on the people when they think that they have been treated fairly. Even if it is few hundred of $ it makes a ton of difference.

On the other hand, if you negotiate and make a good deal for you, they might join the team but they are still mentally in the market looking for a better opportunity.

Know exact work they do – Hour by hour. But don’t tell them.

Before you hire, make a list of the task they do hourly. Know exactly how much time it takes to do a certain task and plan accordingly.

If you are hiring for a 40-hour position, plan for 50 hours and expect 30 hours work to be done.

More importantly, don’t share the plan. It will scare people away. It is just for your reference.

This exercise brings in a lot of clarity on the goals you are trying to accomplish with your hire. Otherwise, you will run around trying to figure out the next task and end up using them for something else.

Eventually, you won’t see the value, they won’t see a value and everything falls apart.

Should be smarter than you

One critical thing to look for in the hire is, the person should be smarter than you.

Don’t hire people to enforce your ideas rather hire people who can perform tasks at much higher level than you.

They will do wonders.

If you find someone to take your commands and do it your way. You are stuck at whatever level you currently are.

Listen more than talking

Smart people talk a lot.

Genius people listen a lot.

The more you know the less you talk. The reason is confidence.

Find those people, who says. I got this. Not the one who explains the whole process of how it is done. These guys are not confident and are validating their ideas with you.

At the same time, don’t misjudge a quite guy to be smart. He might be quite because he doesn’t know anything that you are asking.

When you ask can you do this, the person should give a precise 2 liner answers on how it is done. Anything more, you are wasting your time.

You are funding for their ideas and not yours

Furthermore, always remember. If you get the right people on your team, they drive ideas and execute them as well. All you have to do is listen to the idea and if you also think it is great, fund it.

Don’t try to brainstorm or counter with another great idea. You either fund their idea or pass. Once they know it is their idea they will execute with much higher passion.

If the team doesn’t come up with an idea, fire them.

Be prepared to fire after the 1st week

Just like hiring, firing is an important aspect of your business.

Usually, you will know the quality of the resource in the first week itself. If you are not too excited about the person in the first week, you need to let the person go.

There is no point in delaying the decision. Sooner you do it is better.

Test the job description by conducting trial interviews

Before you start looking out for people, many times we don’t know what is the right terminology to use to search for the skill.

The best way I do is, put out a sample job posting in upwork.com and start talking with the applicants. Carefully note the keywords and problems they are trying to explain it to you.

Those are the terminologies and the problems are the description required for the job. Use that to craft a better job posting to attract top talent.

Resume, cover letters, and profile are useless

People are prepared for all these. They know how to get the best resume template and copy others cover letter to get the first pass.

Just Ignore all that.

Start with a chat in Skype or a video call and see how the person responds to you. Based on the interview decide.

Be flexible on everything except the goals

The freelancer asking to work on his own hours, provide reports in a different format, vacations. You can just let go all of that. But make sure the person is fully responsible for the goal you hired for.

Going for vacation great, but it is the person job to figure out how the job gets done the way they promised.

Be clear about that expectation, upfront.

Let them make mistakes and learn along

Don’t be super picky on small details.

It is ok to be not perfect. Furthermore, encourage imperfections or out of box thinking.

You will never know some simple ideas could be something great. You will know only when you give it a shot.

Search in uncommon places, not in job boards

The great resources are not on job boards. Moreover, they are not looking for jobs, because they are always in demand.

Talented people hang out in community forums, groups, and online boards where like-minded people discuss their favorite stuff.

Join those forums, listen to the conversations and pick the one who stands out in there. Ask that person to help you with your problem.

Measure people based on results not on being busy

People are tuned to be busy.

When it comes to working, there is a misconception that more quantity of work is better.

If you hold your resource to the number of hours they put in. Then you would end up getting more hours of work.

Instead, if you only measure based on the results they produce. More quality projects will get done.

Hire Fast. If in doubt, keep looking

When it comes to hiring, do it in 48 hours from the time you think you are ready.

Only for the projects that are not super critical or expensive. For critical projects, take as much time you need. (you should).

Small ones, just go for it. If the first hire didn’t work then go for next one and so on.

Remember your time is more valuable that wasting few hundred $ trying to search.

Conclusion

Recruitment is hard. Scary for many.

Let go the fear. Learn to delegate the control to someone.

Believe in people and leverage the expertise of others.

Rule of thumb, If there is someone who can do the work, then you should not do it.
