If you are interested in Indian food and follow food blogs, then you might have come across the blog yummytummyaarthi.com. She is one of the popular bloggers in the food blogging community.
If you did not know, Aarthi is a pretty successful blogger, she is driving 3 million page views to her blog every month. She was recently featured in Buzzfeed and been featured in many media outlets in the past. Having almost 600k fans in facebook, she is cranking out 3 blog post almost every day.
Personally I think Aarthi is a great person, she was friendly and was so much willing to help new bloggers like me.
Despite her busy schedule and being a well established successful blogger, she was ready to share her blogging journey and tips for us to learn from her experience.
I thought it would be useful and interesting for all of us to hear from Aarthi herself (or is it yummytummyaarthi )
She had a high profile research job when she started blogging and then she quit the job to take over blogging as a full time. It seemed like a bold move for anyone to believe in the passion and take this big step.
So I asked her.
You quit your research job to start your blog, how did you feel about it? Was it scary to make that move?
Yes, it was, but I had the confident in me and my passion which made me quit my job and concentrate on blogging.
Impressive, confident right, following the passion, is what led her to reach the heights.
Then we asked about the growth in a short time.
Impressive growth in a short time, more than 3 million page views in a month. How did you do it?
I just concentrated more on the recipes, created interesting dishes and constantly updated my blog. Also, I spent quite a bit of time interacting with my viewers, I always reply to their comments, questions and emails. Yummy Tummy has grown so much which made hubby involve in this, he works on youtube videos daily, he shares my post on social media on a daily basis. Right now he is a great part of the growth of yummy tummy. This hard work and dedication made this into a success.
A good lesson to learn for me, interacting consistently with the readers, and answering any questions they may have is what earns the loyal readers for a long time.
Aarthi also has a beautiful young daughter; I know blogging takes a lot of time and effort. With a family and little one it must be so hard to keep up with consistent blogging.
So I asked her just that.
With family and a young daughter, how are you managing to blog in the busy schedule?
This is the question that I get from most of my viewers. I take my blog very seriously since it has turned into my career. I don’t take blogging as a leisure time work, I take it as a full day job and work on it. I plan my cooking schedule the day before and in the morning I cook, take pictures. And after I put my baby to sleep, I stay late at night to edit the pictures and create drafts for my next day post. Hubby is very supportive; he take care of my blog when I am busy with lil one.
I can imagine how hard it is when you have a little one to take care. She pulls it off, by not just one but up to 3 posts in a day. That’s a lot of hard work and planning.
This might be interesting; she is often referred to as yummytummyaarthi more than her real name.
You referred that people are now referring to you as yummytummyaarthi. How do you feel about it?
Yah, Sometimes when we go out, I see people staring at me, many have asked me, you are yummytummyaarthi right. I really feel proud and happy that this blog has given me an identity.
Call it the brand building or whatever, it is something to feel really proud off.
We also want to learn about her goals with the blog.
Where do you think you will go with the blogging? Your future goals with this blog?
Right now..No ideas..It is all in the hands of God..
The next question is for all of us.
What is your advice for a new blogger like me?
The only advice that I give to new bloggers is, just stick to your passion and keep on blogging. Never give up, you will see flying colours one day.
Whatever our passion is just stick to it and keep it doing, one day there will be a success story for sure.
May be this is a bad question to ask someone like Aarthi, but I still asked her if she ever thought about quitting.
You might have seen some tough times, so have you ever thought of quitting?
Seriously, When I read this question, the first thing that I thought is NEVER..I have never ever thought of quitting.
Of course, that was a bad question.
Now about her proud moments.
Recently you were featured in Buzzfeed, and you already had some impressive media coverage. How did you feel about it? It must have helped the blog growth?
Yah, it does. These are happy and exciting moments. Proud moments of a food blogger.
Aarthi keeps me wondering how a single person can accomplish something like this every day.
Your recipes are very descriptive with step by step pictures. Do you get help or do it all by yourself?
In cooking and taking pictures, I don’t get help. I take it all by myself. Because I want everything to be my style.
Impressive isn’t it.
One thing everyone asks is whether blogging is even a career choice its just a hobby to do it over free time. I believe that blogging could be a potential career option.
Any thoughts on making blogging as a career choice? Thoughts on making money from blogging?
When you get good page views and a healthy amount of returning audience. You could make a good amount of money in that.
That reassures that a passion could be your career too. This is what I call it as living the dream, working on things you love to do forever.
I got curious and tried to get into her growth techniques.
How do you consistently grow your blog? Do you use social media, SEO or any other tactics?
I don’t know anything about SEO or other things. The only thing I do is keep on sharing it in social media. Social media is a great platform for bloggers. I believe in it.
I know Aarthi has a lot more to tell us, however, I didn’t want to take too much of her time.
If you have questions or comments on this exciting journey of Aarhi (or yummytummyaarthi), don’t forget to share your thoughts below.
