You might have read many posts on how to make money from blogs. And probably some posts specific to food blog. However, today I would like to show you the inside story of how we make money from our food blog.
Ads
Probably this is one of the easiest options for many of us. Unfortunately, this is one of the options that is not most profitable for us. We have tried all possible ad networks that promise better rates for displaying the ads. However, they still don’t seem good enough for the effort we put in.
I still feel ads are just for fillers if you have extra space that is not used you can fill that with ads. So it at least pays for your hosting, eventually, you can replace each ad with your own product or affiliate ads.
We use some of the premium ad networks for this purpose and it is still on the lower side of our income channels.
Cookbooks
I believe creating your own cookbook is one of the most important things to do for any food blog. There are many reasons to create a cookbook for your blog and one of the main reason is to make money.
There are many ways to make money with the cookbook. I am going to cover that in detail in a separate post.
But for now, it is one of the ways to make some decent passive income from your food blog.
Affiliate
For people who don’t know what affiliate is, it is basically referring other business products and promoting them. And getting a commission paid for every sale they make through your referral.
For many food bloggers when they hear of affiliate they think Amazon. And for many, it doesn’t work well. Because of the nature of the food blog, typically visitors are not coming to the page with the expectation to pay for something, so in my experience, the affiliates don’t convert that well in food blogs.
However, there are ways to promote affiliates using food blogs as well. We write focused content that an affiliate product solves a problem. So when the reader reads the content and sees an associated product they buy them and you make a commission. Posts, like comparing different products in the same category or writing a detailed review about the product, works well.
When you are trying to search for an affiliate try to think outside amazon affiliate program. There are so many networks that offer great commission even some of them pay up to 90% commissions for their products.
Let me know if you are interested in this topic, I can send more information to you or even write a detailed post about it.
Products Sale
As you might know that we opened up an online store recently, we learned a lot from it. I used to think selling products online is difficult and requires a lot of investment but turns out that it is not entirely true.
You can start your own store for a little start up cost and quickly make a lot of money from it.
As a matter of fact, we even are planning to manufacture our own products soon. More on that in detail later. The idea is it is an easy and most lucrative sales channel to add in your blog.
As of today, this is one of the top channels that earns a lot of money for us and it takes a lot less time compared to creating recipes and posting it.
I might write a detailed post on this soon. Until then let me know if you need any more information to explore your own options.
Consulting
I have done consulting in the past and don’t do it much nowadays. However, it is an option you can use to make some money whenever there is some time.
You don’t have to be expert in the field to do consulting. Just list down the things you already know and try to find the business who is in need of such service and help them out for a fee.
For food bloggers, you don’t have to think only about food related consulting. You can also help small business in internet marketing, social media promotion or in creating content. You would be surprised how many businesses are in desperate need to help them promote their stuff in social media and online.
Sponsored Post
Many online news sites make a majority of money using this method. There are many brands who are looking out to reach more customers by putting their products in front of more people.
They reach out to bloggers who already have an audience. Depending on the size they may be willing to pay you based on the post. Often the problem is making the connection between the brands and bloggers. So instead we waiting for someone reach us, we should reach them and ask if they are interested.
We haven’t done a lot of sponsored posts and listing but the ones we did were highly profitable and we will certainly do more as the time permits.
Own digital products
I am in the middle of creating our own digital product to test how this works for food blogs. I have seen other blogs make a lot of money using this method, just want to see how it works for us.
Conclusion
As you might have guessed it, this is not an exhaustive list to make money from a food blog, these are the ones that I have and am trying out to see how it works. The purpose the post is not to brag about us, it’s to teach others that there are ways to make money from the food blog. Many think the food blogging is a passion but we, on the other hand, think it is a very lucrative career.
You would know it only when you do it.
If you want to know more details do let me know, I would be happy to help.
I would like to hear how you are doing as well. If you like to share hit me with the email or leave a comment below so others could benefit.
