Turmeric is a popular spice, widely used in many Indian dishes. It not only adds color but also flavor to the curries. More than a just a spice it has many medicinal values. That is the reason it is used in Ayurveda medicine to treat many diseases.
I am not going to go into the details of the scientific methods. However, I am just going to brief the benefits and the common usage of this amazing spice and the ways it can be included in our diet.

Although there are many advantages debated online, the most popular ones that I found useful are
Reduce Blood Cholesterol:
Turmeric has an active ingredient called curcumin that helps to reduce the absorption of fat in the intestine and contribute to reducing the blood cholesterol by 36%.
Prevent Heart Disease:
Turmeric helps in preventing heart disease even if the condition pre-exists. A research conducted reveals that since curcumin can reduce the cholesterol it can help lowering the impact of the cardiovascular disease.
Protect Liver Damage
LDL the bad cholesterol is not only bad for health it also damages liver cells. The liver helps metabolizes the fat. Turmeric could help suppress the LDL and control the cholesterol levels. This is an excellent way to protect the liver damage for people with obesity or type 2 diabetics.
Increases weight loss
Turmeric stops the immune cells that cause inflammation and fat storage. Helping you from putting more weight and furthermore aiding in weight loss.
Help prevent cancer
Curcumin helps the body to kill the cancer cells. Additionally it also reduces the supply of blood that is required for cancer cell growth.
Some research also shows that curcumin can improve the effectiveness of brain tumor treatment to a greater extent.

Turmeric is an effective anti-oxidant which is powerful than many modern anti-oxidant sources such as vitamin E or vitamin c.

As I mentioned earlier, turmeric is a well-known ingredient in Indian cooking. Indian culture being one of the oldest in the world had learned to incorporate these medicinal spices in their everyday cooking.
Some of the common purposes on how we use turmeric in our kitchen are
Used as disinfectant
You might have heard the turmeric’s disinfecting properties that are used to treat wounds. Similarly, I have seen many people use turmeric while washing the chicken, meat or fish to leverage the disinfecting property to eliminate any bacteria in the meat before cooking.
Flavor curries
Turmeric gives a bold yellow color when added to food. Additionally, it also adds a unique flavor to the food that is little spicy and bitterly taste. Usually, turmeric is added to various spicy curries and almost a default for non-vegetarian spicy dishes. It is also used to marinate chicken for tandoori, fish fry and many more.
