There are a variety of chocolate chips and, each chocolate chip has a specific purpose. While baking chocolate chips, they hold their shape to give a classic round appearance.
Apart from the regular chocolate chips, you can also find stocks of a variety of chocolate chips like, mini chips, butter chips, butterscotch chips, cacao chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, dark chocolate chips, chocolate chips, and caramel chocolate chips. You can use these chips along with other baking products and get the drooling feeling in your mouth.
Milk Chocolate Chip
The sweetest chocolate chip that is available in the market is the milk chocolate which is also known as sweet chocolate. They are made from candy bars of similar chocolates and tastes good when it is eaten straight from the bag. The only difference between milk chocolates and other types of chocolates is that it has milk powder that adds a light cream color. Many bakers don’t prefer to use milk chocolate chips as they tend to melt quickly as well as alters the texture of the baked food.
Semisweet Chocolate Chip
The common type of chocolate chip used in baking is the semisweet chocolate chip. It contains 75% cocoa whereas milk chocolate contains only 20%. Most of the recipes which have a rich chocolate flavor use semisweet chips. The chips contain only a little amount of sugar and, so it makes it easy for the bakers to control the sweetness of baked foods. These chips retain their shape while baking and so, they are ideal for cookies and biscuits.
Bittersweet Chocolate Chips
Bittersweet chocolate chips and Semisweet chocolate chips are quite similar. The bittersweet chocolate chip has a small amount of sugar of the overall 75% of cocoa. The main difference between these two types of chips is that bittersweet chocolate chip contains a higher quantity of chocolate liquor – a liquid form cocoa beans, a little amount of vanilla and lecithin. Semisweet chips and bittersweet chips are interchangeable as it is hard to differentiate between the two.
Dark Chocolate Chips
Baking chips also known as dark chocolate chips have the higher level of cocoa from 75% to 100%. Dark chocolate chips have a very little sugar or no sugar. As the cocoa is in a higher level, the chocolates are usually dark and taste bitter. Many bakers prefer dark chocolate chips to give a natural chocolate flavor and, they sweeten the recipe by using other ingredients.
White chocolate chips
They don’t fall under the category of chocolate chips as there is no cocoa. But the chips contain vanilla, milk, and cocoa butter. Though the white chocolate chip is made from the cocoa bean, antioxidants that are present in dark chocolate is not available in white chocolate chips. White chocolates are found in various forms like novelty chips, butterscotch chips, and peanut butter chips and so on.
